Kyun…Ho Gaya Na! is notable for its visual appeal, including the use of polished teak sets and verdant outdoor settings. The choreography, especially the Broadway-style number “Pyar mein sau uljhane,” is a major highlight. By focusing on the characters Arjun and Diya rather than the actors, Vivek Oberoi and Aishwarya Rai, the film becomes more enjoyable. The film explores the theme of gender differences through its lead characters. Aishwarya Rai’s character embodies the style of Chopra-Dixit romanticism, providing a dreamy contrast to the playful Arjun.
The film has many well-written dialogues and compelling scenes, such as the sequence with Oberoi and Om Puri, where they have to do the dishes. The transition of a scene where Diya imagines Arjun putting jewelry on her, from romance to humor, is well done. The second half has problems once Mr. Bachchan’s character arrives, as the plot is disrupted. Instead of letting the lovers resolve their differences on their own, his character intervenes. The scenes involving the children, designed to be charming, fall flat. The second half feels uneven. Vivek Oberoi discusses how his character in the film is exuberant and flamboyant. He emphasizes that the film is not a conventional romantic story but rather a story of different outlooks on life. Oberoi appreciated the lighthearted tone of the film.
Vivek Oberoi shared that portraying cynicism wasn’t hard, because he builds a world around his character using associations. He loved the experience of working with Amitabh Bachchan and Om Puri, praising their comic skills. He also mentioned that the film is a refreshing change from the usual romantic movies.
