Singer Lucky Ali has directed sharp criticism at veteran writer Javed Akhtar, calling him ‘ugly as f**k’ after a video of Akhtar’s controversial advice to Hindus went viral. Ali later apologized in an unusual manner, suggesting that ‘monsters may have feelings too’ and asking for forgiveness if he had hurt anyone’s ‘monstrosity’.
The incident was triggered by an old video featuring Javed Akhtar discussing freedom of speech in India. In the clip, Akhtar advised Hindus to ‘Don’t become like Muslims. Make them like yourself. You are becoming like Muslims. It’s a tragedy.’ This remark quickly spread across social media platforms.
Lucky Ali responded to the viral video by commenting that Akhtar’s words were ‘ugly as f**k.’ His comment was reportedly made in reference to Akhtar’s broader discussion, which included an anecdote about a scene from the 1975 film ‘Sholay.’ Akhtar had questioned the possibility of such a scene being created in today’s India.
In a subsequent post on X, Ali attempted to soften his stance, stating, ‘What I meant was that arrogance is ugly…. it was a mistaken communique on my part…. monsters may have feelings too and I apologise if I hurt anyone’s monstrosity…….’ The singer’s apology has been noted for its unconventional phrasing.
