Emcy Joseph’s *Meesha*, a Malayalam film, attempts to offer a complex narrative, reminiscent of nesting dolls. However, it disappoints by failing to deliver on its promise. The central plot focuses on the friendship between Midhun and Anandhu, and their entanglement with a corrupt politician. The film’s exploration of caste dynamics feels heavy-handed and the storyline feels stale. The introduction of a hunter, Kitho, adds another layer but never merges with the existing narrative. The film remains divided, failing to coalesce into a cohesive whole. Despite its flaws, *Meesha* has some redeeming qualities, and Kathir’s performance as Midhun is a highlight. The film struggles to provide depth for the female characters and some of the creatures featured. The film’s ambition to convey a message is lost in its fragmented execution.
