
The Indian government has selected Mohanlal, a South Indian superstar, to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2025. This prestigious award is a major milestone in the actor’s career, celebrating his significant contributions to the world of cinema. Mohanlal has not only made a name for himself in South Indian cinema but also worked in Hindi films, gaining a large fan base. He entered the film industry at the age of 18, though his role in the 1978 film ‘Thiranottam’ was minor. The film’s release was delayed due to censorship issues. His career took off in 1980 with ‘Manjil Virinja Pookkal,’ which brought him recognition and became a blockbuster. He went on to star in many outstanding films.
One of the most remarkable years in Mohanlal’s career was 1986, during which he appeared in 34 films. This achievement at the age of 26 significantly boosted his fame. Impressively, 25 of those 34 films were box-office successes. In that year, a new film featuring Mohanlal was released approximately every two weeks. Along with acting, Mohanlal has also established himself as a film producer. He is a well-known figure in the Malayalam film industry. Speaking of his personal life, Mohanlal was born to Viswanathan Nair and Santha Kumari in Elathur, Pathanamthitta district. His father was a government lawyer. He developed an interest in acting while in school. He won the Best Actor award in sixth grade. After completing his graduation, he began his acting career and achieved success. Besides acting, Mohanlal has also made a name for himself as a producer, playback singer, distributor, director, and businessman. He has been honored with the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and five National Awards. He has appeared in over 400 films. In 1988, he married Suchitra and has two children. He owns a film production company called Pranavam Arts, along with other businesses.
