The 71st National Film Awards celebrated the best of Indian cinema in 2023, with a young talent, Treesha Thosar, emerging as a standout. She was recognized as the Best Child Artist for her role in the Marathi film ‘Naal 2,’ overshadowing the presence of established stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Vikrant Massey, Mohanlal, and Rani Mukerji.
Thosar’s entrance at the award ceremony in a white saree earned admiration and smiles from Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji, accompanied by enthusiastic applause from the audience.
On Instagram, Thosar shared her gratitude, stating, “I still don’t fully understand what I have achieved, but I do know this much—that through this award, the name of my Maharashtra state and my entire family has been elevated. And as my mother said, in the past 70 years of National Awards, I am the youngest child artist ever to receive this honor.” She also acknowledged the support of her family, the film crew, and the jury members.
The film ‘Naal 2’ is directed by Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti and produced by Nagraj Manjule, under the banners of Aatpat Production and Zee Studios. Its predecessor, ‘Naal’, also received a National Film Award in 2019. The cast includes Shrinivas Pokale, Nagraj Manjule, Devika Daftardar, Deepti Devi and Jitendra Joshi.
