The 53rd International Emmy Awards ceremony in New York City saw director Imtiaz Ali’s film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ nominated in two categories, but ultimately depart without an award. Diljit Dosanjh, who portrayed the titular singer, was nominated for ‘Best Performance by an Actor’, and the film was in contention for ‘Best TV Movie/Mini-Series’. The film faced strong international contenders in its category, including the eventual winner ‘Lost Boys and Fairies’ from the UK, alongside ‘Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb’ (Germany) and ‘Vencer o Morir’ (Chile). In the acting race, Dosanjh was up against David Mitchell, Oriol Pla, and Diego Vasquez. The ‘Best Performance by an Actor’ award was claimed by Spanish actor Oriol Pla. Despite the outcome, both Dosanjh and Ali were prominent figures on the International Emmys red carpet. Dosanjh’s warm ‘namaste’ gesture was noted by attendees. The Netflix India team, including Monika Shergill and Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, also attended the event. Earlier in the week, Imtiaz Ali had shared his perspective on the film, describing it as a narrative about the intrinsic love between an artist and their art, highlighting the pure drive to perform.
