
The classic Indian film ‘Sholay’, featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra, will be showcased at the Toronto Film Festival, marking the film’s 50th anniversary. The film, directed by Ramesh Sippy, was released in 1975 and has remained a beloved classic. This special screening will take place in Toronto, approximately 11,600 kilometers from India. The announcement was made by the Film Heritage Foundation on social media. The Toronto Film Festival, running from September 4th to September 14th, will host the ‘Sholay’ screening on September 6th. The screening will be in a 4K version. The film’s screenplay was a collaboration between Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, and the music was composed by R.D. Burman. The movie features Dharmendra as Jai, and Amitabh Bachchan as Veeru. Amjad Khan, playing the role of the dacoit Gabbar Singh, also gained huge recognition, and his dialogue “Kitne aadmi the?” is still well-remembered. Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan starred in the female lead roles, with supporting roles from Sanjeev Kumar, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Mac Mohan, and Asrani. The film was made with a budget of 3 crore rupees and earned a gross collection of 50 crore rupees worldwide. India’s net collection was 15 crore rupees, which was a remarkable achievement for the film.
