The film ‘Maa’, starring Kajol, is set to premiere on Netflix after its cinema run. The movie was acclaimed for its distinct approach to the supernatural horror genre, with Kajol’s compelling performance drawing praise.
‘Maa’ will be available on Netflix starting August 22, 2025.
Netflix’s announcement of the film’s OTT launch included the phrase, “When the protector is a mother, every predator will fall. Watch Maa, out 22 August, on Netflix.”
During an interview, Kajol spoke about ‘Maa’ and the potential for the film to become a series. She said, “Maa is the kind of film that will compel you to sit at the edge of your seat because it will make you feel, and make you stand up with her (the lead protagonist) to win her fight; that’s one element we have truly achieved.”
In another interview, she discussed her experiences filming with VFX. She said, “The green screen doesn’t give you the space to improvise anything. You really have no choice in the matter. You have to look in a particular way, raise your hand in a particular way, your body language has to be a certain way. If you get a little leeway, you can improvise to a certain extent, but not much. It’s a very different way of working and performing altogether. It took a little while getting used to. Wrapping your head around it takes one or two days. And you need to have complete faith in your director. He needs to know what you’re doing because you definitely don’t.”
The movie also stars Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, and Kherin Sharma in prominent roles.
