‘The Bengal Files,’ a film directed by Vivek Agnihotri, has been the subject of discussion, with its release on September 5th marked by controversy. The film is centered around the 1946 Calcutta killings. Although it didn’t release in West Bengal due to political issues, screenings have been held in other parts of India. However, a Mumbai theater abruptly canceled a show, prompting a social media user to express their dissatisfaction. The film’s release followed anticipation, with many eager to see it. A recent social media post showed a user expressing their frustration over the cancellation of a Mumbai show. The post also included a video of people waiting at the ticket counter. Narayan Parvathy Parasuram shared a video on X, taken at the ticket counter of Huma Mall in Kanjurmarg, Mumbai. He expressed his anger regarding the unexpected cancellation, emphasizing the number of people waiting and still lining up for ‘The Bengal Files.’ Those with pre-booked tickets also had their shows canceled. The user’s comments highlighted that the location was not Kolkata, but the land of Shivaji Maharaj. Another user also shared their experience, stating that their 9 AM show was canceled, and a substantial crowd was present, with at least 50 people. Before the movie’s release, actress Pallavi Joshi wrote an open letter to President Droupadi Murmu, requesting intervention to safeguard constitutional rights.
