After a disappointing theatrical run, Ajay Bahl’s romantic thriller ‘The Lady Killer,’ starring Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar, has been released on T-Series’ official YouTube channel. The digital release occurred quietly, with little promotion. The film became available on Tuesday morning, following a YouTube countdown, and without any social media or offline marketing, just as in cinemas. It is believed that the film had trouble securing an OTT platform despite its star cast. The film’s box office performance was dismal, earning only Rs 38,000 on its opening day with just 293 tickets sold across the country, making it one of the most significant box office failures in Indian cinema. The film was allegedly released incomplete due to budget overruns, heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, and no reshoots. The team utilized editing cuts and voiceovers to finish the film. Originally planned for release on Netflix, this plan was canceled, and the film was made available for free on T-Series’ YouTube channel. Director Ajay Bahl acknowledged the film’s incompleteness in a YouTube comment, stating that 30 pages of the 117-page screenplay were never filmed. He noted the absence of essential scenes that would have fleshed out the characters’ emotional arcs and relationships. Bahl stated that the actors were not to blame for the challenges, commending Arjun and Bhumi for their dedication and effort.
