‘Thunderbolts’ has achieved critical and commercial success, a positive deviation from some recent Marvel projects. The film is preparing for its digital release, approximately three months after its theatrical run. ‘Thunderbolts’ centers on a group of antiheroes forced to collaborate on a dangerous mission after being caught in a perilous situation.
‘Thunderbolts’ will be available on JioHotstar starting August 27, 2025, with Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu language options.
JioHotstar promoted the release with the statement, “Not super. Not heroes. Not giving up. Thunderbolts* The New Avengers streaming 27 August onwards in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, only on JioHotstar.”
The cast includes Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, Wendell Pierce, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in prominent roles.
The filmmaker, in a past interview, discussed the plot, stating, “I’ve encountered many synopses that inaccurately portray Valentina as assembling a team for nefarious purposes. While I understand the assumption, it’s not the actual narrative.”
Regarding Yelena’s role, he added, “She plays a central role. Yelena starts in a particular situation, and how she escapes and with whom is fundamental to the story. It’s similar to Ronin or Reservoir Dogs, where the characters lack trust. Would they be able to work together? What conflicts would they encounter?”
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about the new developments, director Jake Schreier said, “You know as much as I know about that. I mean, I was there, but I didn’t direct that scene. That comes from the set of a movie that is officially beginning production on Monday.”
He added, “I was very happy to be there and lucky to be there. It was so fun to see your characters go off into this bigger context. We’ve been living in our own contained world, but it was really fun to see them there.”
‘Thunderbolts’ was later rebranded as ‘The New Avengers,’ setting the stage for future Marvel films.
