A wave of online discussion has followed the release of Aryan Khan’s ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood,’ with particular focus on the actor playing an NCG officer. Many viewers have pointed out the striking physical similarities between this character and former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede, leading to widespread speculation that the role is a direct portrayal or parody. The Netflix series, exploring the underbelly of the film industry, has become a focal point of controversy, even prompting a defamation case filed by Wankhede against key figures including Shah Rukh Khan, Red Chillies Entertainment, and Netflix. The Delhi High Court has formally issued notices in response to the lawsuit. Amidst these developments, the actor behind the NCG officer character is experiencing a surge in popularity. Ashish Kumar, the actor, has gained a substantial following on Instagram since his recent account creation. He shared a clip where his character declares, ‘I am part of war against drugs.’ Kumar’s humble response to fan acclaim, stating ‘I just did my job,’ has further endeared him to audiences. Viewers have independently drawn connections between the character and Wankhede, despite the show not making any explicit statements. A key scene features the officer, whose appearance is notably similar to Wankhede’s, arriving at a high-profile party for a drug investigation. Lines delivered by the character, such as ‘Satyamev Jayate’ and strong anti-drug sentiments, are perceived by many as direct references to Sameer Wankhede’s public statements and controversial tenure.
