In response to the passenger influx caused by widespread IndiGo flight cancellations, Indian Railways has taken proactive steps by adding 116 coaches to 37 trains. These trains will operate an additional 114 trips, bolstering the national railway network’s capacity. Southern Railway has made the most significant contributions, enhancing travel options in 18 trains with extra chair car and sleeper class accommodations, effective from December 6, 2025. These upgrades are crucial for meeting the elevated demand on key southern routes. Northern Railway has also implemented coach additions, introducing 3AC and chair car coaches in eight trains to serve the heavily traveled northern corridors. Western Railway has strategically added 3AC and 2AC coaches to four popular trains, catering to the strong passenger movement from western India. To further assist travelers, Indian Railways is operating four dedicated special train services. These include the Gorakhpur-Anand Vihar Terminal special, a Vande Bharat special for the New Delhi-Jammu route, and two superfast specials linking New Delhi with Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram, offering comprehensive travel solutions.
