The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has reiterated the need for parents and guardians to ensure the timely completion of the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) for children aged seven and above who have not yet updated their Aadhaar biometrics. This update is essential to guarantee continuous access to essential services such as school admissions, entrance examinations, scholarships, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) programs. UIDAI emphasizes that an updated Aadhaar with current biometric details is the key for seamless service availability. Initially, when enrolling children under five for Aadhaar, only their photographs and demographic information are recorded, since biometric data collection is not possible at that age. The first biometric update (MBU) is free if done between 5 and 7 years of age. A fee of Rs 100 is applicable for updates done after crossing the age of 7. Failure to update within the specified time frame might lead to Aadhaar deactivation, potentially affecting access to relevant services. The authority highlights that the timely update of biometric information is essential to maintain the accuracy and reliability of a child’s Aadhaar data, which is crucial for identification and accessing government schemes.
