A tense meeting involving the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) took place recently, with BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla and ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi at the center of a heated discussion concerning the Asia Cup trophy. This followed India’s win against Pakistan in the final, and the subsequent refusal by Indian players to accept the trophy from Naqvi.
Naqvi began by expressing his displeasure with the Indian team’s conduct during the trophy presentation, stating they disrespected him. He portrayed himself waiting with the trophy as the players were occupied with their phones. He refused to award the trophy and demanded the Indian captain retrieve it from Dubai.
Rajiv Shukla countered Naqvi’s statements by questioning his actions, given his position and past controversial statements. Shukla emphasized that Naqvi should have communicated with the BCCI beforehand and that the trophy should be given to the ICC or ACC. The Indian captain would not be traveling to Dubai for the presentation.
After a stern rebuke, Naqvi conceded and apologized, agreeing to send the trophy to the ICC, to which Shukla responded positively. The initial controversy arose because the Indian team did not accept the trophy from Naqvi after winning the Asia Cup final. The trophy is now slated to be delivered to India through the ICC.
