The AAIB’s preliminary findings on the Air India AI171 crash, which occurred in Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff, have been released. The crash of the Boeing 787-8 claimed 260 lives, including passengers and people on the ground. Within 90 seconds of takeoff, both engines shut down. The investigation has focused on the fuel cutoff switches and the pilots’ responses to the engine failures. While one engine briefly showed signs of recovery, the aircraft was unable to maintain altitude. The AAIB is working with international agencies to fully understand the circumstances leading to the disaster. The wreckage site, extending over 1,000 feet, revealed major components of the aircraft.
