In the wake of the Air India plane crash, DNA analysis has provided crucial identifications, with 125 victims now confirmed. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi reported that the remains of 83 deceased individuals have been given to their families. Contact has been established with the families of 124 victims.
Sanghavi visited the DNA testing facility in Gandhinagar on June 18, where teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) are conducting the tests. He praised their continuous efforts. By the late hours of Monday, 131 DNA matches were successfully made, with additional certificates prepared for the Civil Hospital.
The Home Minister added that senior police officials, together with the FSL team, have been monitoring the process. The teams have worked tirelessly to quickly return the mortal remains to the families. The accident occurred on June 12, when a London-bound Air India flight crashed near Ahmedabad airport. The aircraft, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had 242 people on board, and all but one died.
