As preparations intensify for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2025), Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully detained a terrorist over-ground worker (OGW) using a Facial Recognition System (FRS). This represents a pioneering application of such technology in the region for this purpose. The individual was apprehended at the Langanbal Naka checkpoint near Pahalgam in Anantnag. The suspect, a resident of Seer Hamdan and with a history of legal issues dating back to 2005, was subsequently handed over to Police Station Pahalgam. The police are reinforcing security measures with increased electronic surveillance along yatra routes, and the Pahalgam and Baltal routes have been designated as no-fly zones. Additionally, helicopter services for pilgrims have been suspended as part of the comprehensive security plan.
