
Amit Khare, a former bureaucrat, has been appointed as Secretary to the newly elected Vice President, C.P. Radhakrishnan, following approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The appointment is for three years. According to the order from the Department of Personnel and Training, Khare’s position will carry the rank and pay of a Secretary, taking effect from the day he assumes charge.
The official order reads, ‘The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Amit Khare, IAS (Retd.), 1985 batch, Jharkhand Cadre, as Secretary to the Vice-President of India.’
Before his current appointment, Khare served as Advisor to the Prime Minister from October 2021, and was involved in social sector subjects within the Prime Minister’s Office. He was also involved in drafting and implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Throughout his career, Khare held key positions such as Secretary of Information & Broadcasting; Secretary of School Education & Literacy; and Secretary of Higher Education. He is also known for his role in exposing the ‘fodder scam’ of Bihar.
Khare is a graduate of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and holds a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from IIM Ahmedabad. He also completed his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hinoo in 1977.
C. P. Radhakrishnan took the oath as India’s 15th Vice President in a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The oath of office was administered by President Droupadi Murmu. Radhakrishnan, the NDA’s candidate, won the election with 452 votes, against B. Sudershan Reddy, who received 300 votes. Prior to this role, Radhakrishnan was the Governor of Maharashtra.
