The Jammu and Kashmir Police have ordered the attachment of a significant piece of real estate owned by Mian Abdul Qayoom, formerly the head of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA). The property, a residential house in Srinagar’s Barzulla locality, is now under attachment due to its alleged connection to a 2009 seminar where anti-India sentiments were reportedly expressed. The investigation into this seminar, organized by separatist leaders, uncovered incriminating items at Qayoom’s residence. These included documents and literature associated with militant organizations, leading authorities to deem the property as ‘proceeds of terrorism’ under the UAPA. The official order for this attachment was given by DGP Nalin Prabhat, directing local police units to enforce it. This action against Qayoom, a legal figure, is notable, particularly in light of his earlier arrest in 2020 in connection with the murder of Advocate Babar Qadri.
