New Delhi has unequivocally asserted its sovereignty over Arunachal Pradesh following the alleged detention of an Indian citizen by Chinese authorities in Shanghai. The Ministry of External Affairs has strongly taken up the issue with Beijing, highlighting that the detention of Prema Wangjom Thongdok, a UK-based individual, is a clear violation of international protocols governing transit. Thongdok reported that immigration officials questioned her Indian passport, claiming Arunachal Pradesh was not part of India. The MEA dismissed China’s territorial claims as fabrications and stated that China has yet to offer a valid explanation for its conduct. India maintains that Arunachal Pradesh has always been, and will remain, an integral part of the nation.
