
The mortal remains of the beloved Assamese singer Zubeen Garg have been brought to Delhi from Singapore. Following the arrival, the body was sent to Guwahati. The body was handed over to the Indian ambassador after a post-mortem examination was conducted on Saturday. Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, was present at the airport in Delhi to pay his respects.
CM Sarma stated that Garg’s body will be available for public viewing at the Arjun Bhogeshwar Barua Sports Complex in Guwahati. The complex will be open to the public from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Fans and well-wishers have gathered in large numbers at Garg’s residence and at the airport in Guwahati.
Musician and singer Manas Robin shared his grief, stating that the news is heartbreaking for Indian music fans and the Assamese community. He remembered Garg’s contributions to the music world.
Congress MLA Diganta Barman remembered Garg as the soul of Assam, emphasizing his charitable nature and urging the government to award him the Padma Vibhushan. Congress MLA Nandita Das spoke of Garg’s lasting impact through his music.
The CM mentioned that Garg’s body will be brought back to Guwahati via a special flight. The public is urged to allow the family some privacy during this time. The Assam government has announced three days of state mourning in respect to the singer, during which no public entertainment or celebrations will be held.
