The incidents resulted in public demonstrations and clashes with law enforcement in Hojai, with community members reacting to reports of suspected cattle meat. The state’s cattle preservation law regulates slaughter in certain zones based on religious demographics and proximity to religious institutions. Police are investigating after pieces of meat were found in some areas.
