Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, is experiencing increased security measures in the wake of recent violence, with the administration taking proactive steps before Friday prayers. A key measure includes a 48-hour suspension of internet services to address concerns regarding the misuse of social media. The Home Department of Uttar Pradesh has issued an order that restricts mobile internet, broadband, and SMS services in Bareilly district, starting from October 2nd and lasting until October 4th. The suspension aims to prevent the spread of misinformation and potential unrest through social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube. The government’s goal is to maintain peace and public order within the region. Adding to the security, city officials conducted a flag march on Thursday. These security protocols are a direct response to the events of September 26th, when a large crowd assembled outside a mosque following Friday prayers, triggered by the ‘I Love Muhammad’ poster controversy, which resulted in clashes with law enforcement.
