As the Bihar elections draw near, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has revealed a plan to provide free electricity to domestic users. Under the new policy, households will receive up to 125 units of electricity without charge, starting from the July 2025 billing period. The scheme is expected to impact approximately 16.7 million families across the state. The Chief Minister shared the details via a social media post, underscoring the government’s dedication to affordable energy. Further, the initiative includes plans to promote the installation of solar power plants over the next three years, with financial aid provided by the government. This program is designed to alleviate electricity costs for qualified users while also fostering the development of solar energy, with a goal of generating up to 10,000 megawatts within three years. The Bihar Legislative Assembly elections are anticipated in October or November 2025. The current political structure in Bihar has seen several changes, including Nitish Kumar’s shift from the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan to an alliance with the BJP.
