Bihar’s political arena is abuzz with activity as the upcoming Assembly elections draw closer. The Congress party has now released its second set of candidate nominations, adding to the existing tensions surrounding seat-sharing within the Mahagathbandhan alliance. Shaswat Kedar Pandey is set to contest from Narkatiaganj, and Qamrul Hoda from Kishanganj. The party has also nominated Irfan Alam for Kasba, Jitender Yadav for Purnia, and Mohan Shrivasta for Gaya Town. This list signifies a determined push by the Congress as the electoral battleground intensifies.
The Mahagathbandhan alliance has experienced a significant disruption with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) announcing its decision to contest six seats independently. JMM General Secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya characterized the move as a strategic realignment driven by internal disagreements. The JMM’s chosen constituencies are Dhamdaha, Chakai, Katoria, Manihari, Jamui, and Pirpainti, areas strategically important due to their proximity to Jharkhand and significant tribal populations.
Political analysts are weighing the impact of the JMM’s departure, suggesting it could weaken the Mahagathbandhan’s prospects, especially in border regions and tribal-dominated constituencies. This fragmentation of votes might prove beneficial for the NDA.
Despite the apparent discord, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera expressed confidence in the alliance’s internal cohesion. He stated that all necessary agreements have been reached and that official pronouncements would be made in due course. Khera’s remarks aim to project stability amidst the ongoing political fluidity.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the BJP, is showcasing a united front and robust preparedness. Seat-sharing arrangements with key allies like JD(U), LJP (Ram Vilas), RLM, and HAM have been finalized, and campaign activities are actively underway. A significant strategic meeting saw Chirag Paswan confer with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Patna to strategize for the elections, emphasizing a disciplined and coordinated campaign.
As the election countdown continues, Bihar is poised for a pivotal political contest. Polling is scheduled for November 6 and 11, with the election results to be declared on November 14, marking the culmination of a period of intense political competition and potential shifts in alliances.
