As the Bihar assembly elections approach, the state government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is rolling out various initiatives, including financial support for key community workers. A significant announcement includes a Rs 25,000 allowance for Vikas Mitras. Additionally, education workers will receive Rs 10,000 for the purchase of smartphones. The Chief Minister shared these details on the social media platform X.
Specifically, the government will provide a one-time grant of Rs 25,000 to Vikas Mitras working under the Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission for buying tablets.
**The Role of Vikas Mitras**
The Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission, established in 2009, aims to connect government programs with the Mahadalit population. The mission selects Vikas Mitras across all panchayats and ward clusters. These individuals are responsible for informing the Mahadalit community about government schemes and ensuring they receive the intended benefits. Vikas Mitras serve as vital links between the government and Mahadalit families. The monthly remuneration for Vikas Mitras has been increased from Rs 13,700 to Rs 25,000.
**Other Key Announcements**
Chief Minister Kumar emphasized that the government is committed to the upliftment of marginalized communities through development with justice. Vikas Mitras are crucial in delivering government welfare schemes to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. To support this, a one-time payment of Rs 25,000 will be provided to each Vikas Mitra under the Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission for purchasing tablets, facilitating their data collection and administrative tasks.
The government has also decided to increase the monthly transport allowance for Vikas Mitras from Rs 1,900 to Rs 2,500 and the stationery allowance from Rs 900 to Rs 1,500 to improve their working conditions.
**Support for Education Workers**
In addition to the above, the Chief Minister announced that education workers, including those associated with Talimi Markaz, who play a critical role in educating children from Mahadalit, Dalit, minority, and extremely backward classes, as well as promoting literacy among women through the Akshar Aanchal Yojana, will receive Rs 10,000 each to purchase smartphones, aiding in the management of digital activities.
The budget for teaching materials will be increased from Rs 3405 to Rs 6,000 per center annually. These measures are intended to boost the morale of both Vikas Mitras and education workers, allowing them to perform their duties with greater efficiency and dedication.
