A heartwarming story of reunion unfolded in Bihar when a man, separated from his family for 21 years, finally found his way back. The family recalled that Sonu went missing in 2004. He had been residing at his aunt’s home and disappeared from there. Extensive efforts to locate him proved unsuccessful, and the police were involved. Sonu’s mother was deeply affected by his absence and passed away due to the immense grief. Now, Sonu’s return has filled everyone with joy.
In April 2004, Sonu Kumar, also known as Manoj Kaptan, the son of Harishankar Prasad Singh from Pakda village in Navgachia, Bhagalpur district, went missing from Raxaul. He was around eight or nine years old. Sonu was staying with his aunt, Nirmala Devi. The aunt was away visiting relatives on the day of Sonu’s disappearance. Upon her return, Sonu was gone, sending the family into a state of shock. They searched tirelessly in villages, cities, and even Nepal, but there was no sign of him. Their fortunes changed unexpectedly on Friday evening.
Harishankar was shown a photo and informed that his son, Sonu, was admitted to Dhanbad Medical College Hospital. Overwhelmed, he and his family rushed to Dhanbad, filled with a mixture of hope and apprehension. Upon arrival, they recognized Sonu. Harishankar broke down in tears, embracing his son tightly.
Deepak Singh, a hospital staff member, was instrumental in bringing Sonu and his family together. He shared that he encountered a patient on Thursday morning who identified himself as Sonu. After considerable effort, the patient remembered he was from Navgachia village in Bhagalpur. He further mentioned that he belonged to a Bhumihar Brahmin family but couldn’t recall the village’s name. Deepak sent Sonu’s photo and information to his relatives in Bhagalpur. With the assistance of social media, his relatives spread the word among Bhumihar Brahmin families in Navgachia. Sonu’s family contacted Deepak that night to confirm the information. The next day, they arrived at the hospital.
Two years prior, Sonu’s mother had succumbed to the shock of his absence. Sonu was the second of four children, according to his family. Harishankar Prasad Singh was also deeply affected by Sonu’s disappearance. As the years went by, the joy and happiness in their home seemed to fade. While the other children grew up and built their own lives, Harishankar carried the pain of losing one of his sons.
