Mahanand Singh, the MLA from Arwal, has been taken into custody in connection with a 24-year-old case. The Civil Court in Jehanabad, Bihar, ordered on August 4th that Singh be placed in judicial custody. This comes after he was declared a fugitive in the old case. His position as an MLA is now at risk. SDJM Manish Kumar ordered him to be sent to Mandal Kara Kako. The case dates back to 2001, with Singh being arrested following a COVID-19 test at Jehanabad Sadar Hospital. The court’s decision led to chaos. The police immediately took the MLA into custody. Supporters of the MLA expressed their anger, with some labeling the action as a political plot. Singh stands accused of obstructing government work. In 2001, a state-wide road blockade was announced to protest the arrest of CPI (ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya. Mahanand Singh allegedly participated in a road blockade in Jehanabad, leading to charges of obstructing government work under case number 67/2001.
