The Bihar government has announced a major initiative aimed at supporting sugarcane farmers. The Sugarcane Industries Department launched a portal under the Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme on Tuesday. This portal allows farmers to apply online and will streamline the application process. The government has allocated 10 crore rupees for the scheme’s implementation during the 2025-26 financial year.
The scheme is designed to cut down the costs associated with sugarcane farming, thereby increasing the net income for the farmers. The program also helps in treating sugarcane seeds. Using modern farm equipment will enable the precise planting of seeds at the ideal spacing. Furthermore, modern machinery is necessary for controlling pests and eliminating weeds.
To participate, sugarcane farmers in the state can apply online through the Cane Care portal available at https://ccs.bihar.gov.in or https://sugarcanemech.bihar.gov.in, using their 13-digit DBT number. The scheme offers subsidies for various agricultural implements, from field preparation to harvesting. Farmers can apply for a subsidy on a maximum of three agricultural machines. There is a provision for machine banks. Selected applicants can purchase machines from listed vendors by paying the remaining amount after subsidy.
