The upcoming 2025 Assembly elections in Bihar have become the focal point of a dispute centered around the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The process has been criticized for alleged inaccuracies, including the inclusion of deceased individuals and the omission of living voters. Tejashwi Yadav, RJD’s CM candidate, raised concerns that his name was absent from the draft voter list despite completing the necessary enumeration form, questioning how he would participate in the election. The Janata Dal (United) responded by accusing Yadav of misleading the public. At a press conference in Patna, Yadav stated that his name was missing and that his EPIC information yielded no results. The Patna district administration clarified that Yadav’s name is present, but his polling station and serial number had been changed. Yadav questioned the number of such changes, implying a possible conspiracy. The Election Commission (ECI) immediately refuted Yadav’s claims, clarifying his name is listed in the draft electoral roll. JDU spokesperson Neeraj Kumar accused Yadav of political deception. The ongoing SIR process is a voter list verification initiative. Objections to any discrepancies can be filed between August 1st and September 1st, 2025. ECI issued instructions for conducting Special Intensive Revision exercise in Bihar on 24th of last month. The objectives of the exercise were to ensure the inclusion of names of all eligible citizens in the electoral roll in a transparent manner. The last intensive revision for Bihar was conducted by the Commission in the year 2003. The voters can check their details at ECI website.
