In a move to aid those impacted by severe flooding, the Bihar government has transferred seven thousand rupees to the bank accounts of 651,602 families. This financial aid is designated as compensation for flood-related damages, not a component of any existing government program. The floods caused considerable destruction across multiple districts, including Buxar, Bhagalpur, Arrah, and Katihar, leading to displacement and extensive damage to farmlands.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had previously surveyed the flood-affected areas by air. The financial assistance was then distributed to the affected families in Patna, with the Chief Minister announcing the action on X.
Nitish Kumar, in an X post, confirmed the transfer of 456.12 crore rupees via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), providing 7,000 rupees per family to a total of 651,602 flood-affected families. He emphasized that the state’s resources are first allocated to those impacted by disasters and that the government is continuously working to benefit the residents. He also urged citizens to remain cautious during the month of September.
Approximately 3.8 million people across more than 60 blocks in 12 districts have been affected by the rising water levels of the Ganges and other rivers. Districts affected include Patna, Begusarai, Munger, and Nalanda. With the flood risk still present, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered officials to remain vigilant and to offer every possible assistance to the affected families.
