The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will meet in Patna, Bihar, on September 24th. This marks the first time since India’s independence that such a meeting has been held in the state. Earlier Congress sessions were held in Bihar in 1912 (Patna) and 1922 (Gaya). The extended CWC meeting will include participation from all committee members, state presidents, legislative party leaders, officials from various organizations, chief ministers, and senior leaders.
Reportedly, the Patna meeting will see resolutions passed on crucial topics, including a ‘second revolution’, the challenges facing democracy, and ‘vote theft’. The meeting will pay tribute to the legacy of Gandhi and JP in Bihar, with a focus on positioning Rahul Gandhi as a leader. Discussions on the Election Commission and other constitutional bodies are also slated.
Krishna Allavaru, AICC in-charge for Bihar affairs, explained that the CWC will cover national issues and those specific to Bihar. The decision to hold the meeting in Bihar signifies the Congress’s commitment to a ‘second independence’ struggle in the state. The Sadaqat Ashram, historically a key site of the anti-British movement, will serve as a central location for this renewed effort.
Allavaru also asserted that the political landscape is now focused on Bihar, particularly due to the upcoming assembly elections, which are poised to send a strong message across the nation. The CWC will discuss issues like vote manipulation, migration, inflation, crime, unemployment, and problems directly affecting the public. Allavaru questioned the government’s failure to address these concerns despite being in power for over a decade, likening the situation to a student who relies on unfair means to succeed. He emphasized that the practice of vote theft has been exposed.
A primary goal of the meeting is to recognize Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ in Bihar as a significant initiative to boost public awareness. This meeting is intended to set the stage for the upcoming elections and to launch a national campaign against vote theft, starting from Bihar.
