Bihar has established itself as a pioneer in the realm of sports by becoming the first state in India to introduce a specialized health and welfare policy tailored for female athletes. The initiative, a collaborative effort involving the Department of Sports, Bihar State Sports Authority, and the government, signifies a crucial step towards acknowledging and addressing the distinct challenges faced by women in sports. The draft of the Bihar Women Athlete Health and Welfare Policy-2025 underwent extensive discussions, gathering insights from a diverse group of experts and specialists.
The policy acknowledges the recent rise in women’s participation in sports at both grassroots and elite levels. The policy’s main focus includes addressing menstrual health, nutritional needs, and psychological support for athletes. By focusing on these factors, the policy aims to create a more encouraging environment for female athletes, boost their performance, and enhance their chances of winning medals for the state and the nation.
