A woman in Jhabuchak village, Dulhinbazar police station area, Patna district, Bihar, died following a police encounter. The deceased, Radhika Devi, wife of Satendra Bind, died as a result of the confrontation. The community responded with outrage, blocking the Paliganj Masaurhi road near Ichipur with her body, and setting a fire to protest the incident.
Following the road blockade, police from multiple police stations in Paliganj were called to the scene. Police managed to clear the road after talking with the protesters. According to Geera Kumari, the daughter-in-law of the deceased, police officers from Dulhinbazar police station entered their home around midnight on Friday, allegedly attacking her and her mother-in-law. Radhika Devi subsequently fell unconscious.
Efforts to revive Radhika Devi were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The family is demanding justice. This incident arises from a case in which Poonam Devi reported her daughter’s abduction to the police four days before, but the authorities did not act promptly on the complaint.
The victim then approached the DGP, who instructed the Patna SSP to investigate. The investigation, led by Paliganj DSP 2, revealed police negligence, leading to the suspension of the Dulhinbazar station in-charge. The police had gone to the woman’s home late Friday to arrest suspects in the abduction case.
Paliganj DSP 2, Umeshwar Kumar Chaudhary, stated that an altercation during the raid led to the woman’s death. The DSP added that the two sons of the deceased were accused in the abduction case. The cause of the woman’s death is under investigation. The authorities have assembled a medical team for a post-mortem examination. If police are found culpable, legal action will be taken. The body was transported to Patna AIIMS for the post-mortem.
