Bihar is bracing itself for the upcoming assembly elections this year, causing a surge in political activity. Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of Lalu Yadav, has decided to split from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and form his own party. The new party will be known as ‘Janshakti Janata Dal’. He went to the Election Commission on August 17th for the party’s registration.
Sources indicate that Tej Pratap Yadav, along with the president and secretary of the Janshakti Janata Dal party, met the Chief Electoral Officer. The party was formed in 2020. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Balendu Das, who is considered close to Tej Pratap, contested from the Janshakti Janata Dal party and was given the flute as his election symbol.
Tej Pratap presented necessary documents to the Election Commission. The Election Commission had recently issued notices to several parties in the state, requesting they renew their registration with the necessary paperwork. This led to speculation about whether Tej Pratap Yadav would lead the Janshakti Janata Dal.
Reports confirm that on Monday, Janshakti Janata Dal was granted recognition by the Election Commission. Tej Pratap is believed to have spent around 30 minutes in discussion with the Chief Electoral Officer and registered the party in his name.
Despite this, when Tej Pratap Yadav was questioned by the media after his meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer, he mentioned his visit was related to the issue of deletion of voter names from the Mahua assembly constituency.
On the same day, Tej Pratap Yadav also commented on the ongoing vote-rights journey led by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav in Bihar, criticizing it as ineffective. He suggested that issues like employment and education should be prioritized. He stated that Rahul and Tejashwi were wasting time on the issue of ‘SIR’.
