Bihar is battling the effects of incessant rainfall that has been battering the state for the past day. The downpour has led to widespread flooding in both urban and rural areas. Schools in several districts, including Siwan, Gopalganj, Rohtas, and Chhapra, have been shut down. Authorities have issued a red alert for approximately two dozen districts, including Patna. The heavy rain has not only submerged roads but has also destroyed crops, severely affecting the daily lives of the residents. The situation has disrupted both road and rail transport, and flight operations have been impacted with diversions to Patna airport. The weather forecast indicates that the adverse conditions will persist for the next three days. The meteorological department attributes the inclement weather to a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal, which is moving towards the northwest. This system is expected to bring thunderstorms, lightning, and very heavy rainfall to certain areas of the state. The Disaster Management Department has issued warnings for severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, lightning, and high winds from October 4th to 7th. Specific districts are under red and orange alerts, and residents are urged to take necessary precautions. The advisory includes avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities, staying away from vulnerable infrastructure, and relocating to safe areas. Emergency contact numbers have also been provided for assistance.
