In Khagaria district, Bihar, a vigilance team has arrested a female ASI and a चौकीदार for accepting a bribe. The ASI had demanded money from the victim in exchange for completing an investigation and filing a charge sheet in a timely manner. The victim, however, reported the bribe demand to the vigilance department. The vigilance team, acting on the complaint, implemented a carefully planned operation, leading to the arrest of the individuals involved in the bribery.
The case stemmed from a complaint lodged by the wife of Anil Kumar Shah, residing in the Rajazan village of the Nagar police station area of Khagaria. The complaint was related to a bank loan. ASI Seema Kumari was the investigating officer assigned to the case. The ASI initially asked for ₹10,000, which was later increased to ₹20,000, to investigate the case and submit the charge sheet. Veeru Paswan, a चौकीदार, was also part of the bribery. The complainant, Mamta Devi, shared this information with her husband, Anil Shah.
Anil Shah immediately reported the incident to the vigilance team. The team, under the guidance of DSP Arunoday Pandey, launched an investigation. On Tuesday, the team apprehended the ASI and the चौकीदार from the Nagar police station premises. The vigilance team was present at the police station, and as soon as Mamta Devi handed over the ₹20,000, the team caught the ASI and the चौकीदार red-handed.
The vigilance team has brought the arrested individuals to Patna for further investigation and questioning. DSP Arunoday Pandey confirmed that ASI Seema, the investigating officer, had demanded a bribe to expedite the investigation and the filing of the charge sheet in a bank-related case. Anil Shah of Khagaria filed a complaint with the vigilance team regarding this demand. The team investigated the complaint and arrested both individuals while they were taking a bribe of ₹20,000.
The vigilance DSP revealed that the initial complaint indicated a demand of ₹10,000, but the actual amount demanded was ₹20,000 as revealed by the team’s investigation. The action has curbed corruption and created significant unrest in the police department.
