A couple in Bhagalpur, Bihar, found their love story taking an unexpected turn when their families rejected their union. Their plight, now documented in a viral video, highlights the lengths they went to for love. Having been in a relationship for a year, they decided to marry, only to face opposition from both sides of their families. The couple’s response was to run away, eventually finding themselves in another village where a heartwarming act of solidarity unfolded – the villagers arranged their wedding.
The villagers initially questioned the couple, who confessed their love and threatened to end their lives if marriage was denied. The villagers, touched by their desperation, took it upon themselves to arrange a wedding ceremony in a local temple. In a post-wedding video, the bride emphasized that she married of her own free will, with no force involved. She further clarified that her family, particularly her uncle, would be responsible for any harm that befell her, her husband, or their in-laws.
The events took place in the Sanhaula police station area. Shivam, from Lodipur Khurd, and his girlfriend from Chhoti Sardho village (Sabour police station area), had a year-long relationship. When the families discovered their relationship, they expressed disapproval. Consequently, the couple eloped. They were later found near a hospital in Sanhaula, where they explained to villagers that they were in love and had run away, and that both were adults.
The villagers then arranged for a priest to perform a Hindu wedding at the Baba Bholenath temple. The villagers played the roles of both families, managing the wedding arrangements and ensuring blessings from the deities. The bride’s statement is currently circulating widely on social media.
