The aftermath of an incident in Uttar Pradesh, where a storyteller was assaulted and humiliated, has sparked controversy in a village in Bihar. Tikulia village in East Champaran district has implemented a ban on Brahmins conducting religious ceremonies, drawing attention to issues of caste and religious practice.
Across the village, signs have been put up stating, “Brahmins are strictly forbidden from performing puja-path in this village; punishment will be given upon capture.” This action is linked to the recent events in Etawah, where a story-teller was mistreated. The village’s decision reflects a complex mix of emotions and social tensions.
Local residents have stated that they oppose Brahmins who do not have proper knowledge of the Vedas and engage in undesirable practices. At the same time, they stress their respect for those who are knowledgeable and adhere to Vedic principles, regardless of caste or religious background. The villagers express a strong belief that caste-based restrictions contradict both the constitution and social harmony.
Authorities are also responding, with police removing the signs and investigating the instigators. The villagers seek justice and demand firm action from the government to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
