With the Bihar assembly elections approaching, the integrity of the voter list has become a contentious issue. The Mahagathbandhan has accused the BJP government and the Election Commission of colluding to manipulate the electoral process. Tejashwi Yadav, a key figure in the RJD, alleged that the BJP is intentionally targeting the voting rights of the underprivileged. He announced that the India alliance would submit a formal complaint to the Election Commission.
According to Yadav, the Election Commission is set to replace the current voter list of 8 crore voters with a new one, which he labeled a perilous scheme. He believes the BJP, anticipating defeat, is attempting to weaken the democratic foundation by removing names of the poor, laborers, and Dalits from the voter list.
Furthermore, Yadav criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming they are acting in fear and undermining democracy in Bihar. He asserted that these actions are orchestrated by the BJP to damage the opposition’s support base. Deepankar Bhattacharya echoed these concerns.
