
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has shared updates on the upcoming monsoon, predicting its arrival in several North Indian states within the next two days. This includes Delhi, where a yellow alert has been issued, Chandigarh, and parts of Haryana. The monsoon is also expected to impact Western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir, with an estimated arrival date of June 24th.
The southwest monsoon is currently progressing through various regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Kashmir, Jammu, and parts of Punjab. Delhi residents can anticipate light to moderate rainfall, offering a break from the recent heat. The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius, 1.3 degrees cooler than average. The IMD has issued a yellow alert, signaling the anticipation of rain in the capital.
The yellow alert for Delhi on Monday suggests light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds reaching 30-40 km/h. According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon is also expected to make its way into parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and areas of Delhi, as well as Western Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and the remainder of Jammu, within the next two days. The monsoon’s arrival in these areas is anticipated shortly.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, western Uttar Pradesh, and eastern Rajasthan regions. Additionally, Assam, Meghalaya, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are forecasted to experience heavy rainfall. Heavy rains are also anticipated in Uttarakhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, western Rajasthan, and western Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rainfall has been recorded in areas of Konkan, Goa, coastal Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam.
