Police and the Excise Department in Gopalganj, Bihar, achieved a major success in combating the illegal liquor trade just before the assembly elections. Acting on a specific tip, the authorities intercepted a truck and seized 900 cartons of foreign liquor. The operation took place at the Balthari check post, falling under the jurisdiction of Kucha Kot police station. The recovered liquor is valued at approximately one crore rupees. One individual, identified as Dawood Nabi from Murshidabad, was arrested in connection with the incident. Preliminary investigations indicate that the liquor was being transported from Uttar Pradesh to Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The driver initially claimed the truck was carrying cotton; however, the weight of the vehicle and other factors raised suspicion, prompting the search that revealed the hidden alcohol concealed within cotton bales.
