With the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, the Election Commission is intensifying its preparations. A key step in this process involves a visit by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, to Bihar on October 4th and 5th. Their primary objective will be to review the election preparations, engaging in discussions with the Chief Electoral Officer and other state authorities.
Prior to the visit of the Chief Election Commissioner, a meeting for the observers appointed by the commission is scheduled to take place in Delhi on Friday. This meeting will involve election observers, police personnel, and other senior officials. The announcement of election dates usually follows a visit by a full member of the Election Commission to a state. Therefore, the announcement regarding the Bihar elections is expected to be made sometime after October 5th.
The Election Commission has finalized the appointment of 470 central observers, comprising 320 IAS and 60 IPS officers, for the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar. These observers will also be responsible for overseeing the by-elections in eight additional states. The meeting is scheduled to be held at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in Dwarka on Friday at 10 AM.
The Election Commission has also issued the final voter list after the completion of the Systematic Inclusion and Revision (SIR) process. This list includes an addition of 1.4 million new voters.
