
A health crisis unfolded in Lavapur Narayan village of Mahnar, Hajipur district, Bihar, where around 20 people were hospitalized after eating jackfruit. The affected individuals were first admitted to private hospitals and Mahnar Hospital, before being transferred to Hajipur Sadar Hospital for further medical attention.
Families of the affected reported that ripe jackfruit was distributed on Friday. Symptoms, including stomach pain, vomiting, and fever, developed shortly after consumption. The illness spread, affecting about 20 people who were then admitted to various medical facilities.
Dr. A.K. Yadav of Sadar Hospital stated that 14 patients are currently admitted and receiving treatment, indicating that jackfruit consumption was the cause. He suggested that the situation is a case of food poisoning. Baby Devi, the mother of one of the sick children, revealed that the jackfruit was distributed by their neighbor, Asha Devi, on Friday. The fruit was eaten by a wide cross-section of the community, including women, children, and senior citizens.
