A horrific incident has come to light in Navgachia, Bhagalpur, Bihar, where a husband murdered his wife, concealing the crime by dumping her body in the Ganga River and fabricating a suicide scenario. The husband, with the help of his family, committed the murder and later attempted to mislead the police. Police have apprehended the accused husband and are investigating. The event took place in the BhabanGama area under the Bihpur police station in Navgachia. During interrogation, the accused husband confessed that a domestic dispute led to a physical fight which resulted in his wife’s death. To hide the murder, he and his family put the body in a sack and threw it in the Ganga River. Police recovered the woman’s body from the river with the assistance of divers and sent it for a post-mortem examination. The arrested individuals include the husband, Gautam Yadav; the deceased’s mother-in-law, Janki Devi; and father-in-law, Vasudev Yadav. Navgachia SP Prerna Kumar revealed details about the incident. The SP stated that a domestic dispute between the in-laws and the deceased turned into a physical altercation, causing the woman’s death. Subsequently, the husband and in-laws disposed of the body in the Ganga and fled. The SDPO Omprakash led a team that arrested the husband from BhabanGama, and the body was recovered based on his information. Three individuals have been arrested, while the police are actively seeking other suspects. According to SP Prerna Kumar, the woman’s father filed a complaint on June 16th alleging that his daughter was murdered by her husband and in-laws, and that her body was missing. A case was registered, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed. Within hours, Vasudev Yadav and Janki Devi were arrested, followed by the arrest of Gautam Yadav. To misguide the police, Gautam Yadav spread a false narrative that his wife had committed suicide. He informed the deceased woman’s family of the situation. When the family reached the scene, the in-laws had fled. Police registered a case of murder for dowry based on a written complaint from the family.
