In light of the tragic stampede near Shree Gundicha Temple in Puri, the election for the Odisha BJP president has been put on hold. State election officer Pratap Sarangi reported the postponement, citing the need for discussions with the central leadership before setting a new date. The election process was initiated with a formal notification, a voter list, and plans for nominations, scrutiny, and a July 1 voting schedule. Despite the postponement in Odisha, the BJP plans to announce new state presidents for Uttarakhand and Maharashtra as scheduled. State president elections are expected in several other states, paving the way for the party’s national president election. The election structure includes district-level elections, followed by state president elections, ultimately leading to the national president’s election.
