
A court in Odisha’s Jajpur district has sentenced Sayed Ishaan Bukhari, a Kashmiri man, to five years of rigorous imprisonment. The arrest took place in December 2023, and the charges included impersonation, fraud, and connections to anti-national activities. The court also imposed a fine on Bukhari, 37, from Handwara, Kupwara. The conviction was based on the evidence presented by the prosecution, which included the testimony of 18 witnesses and 130 documents. The case involved charges under IPC and IT Act sections. The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch arrested Bukhari in Jajpur, where he was allegedly posing as a PMO official, a neuro-specialist, and an associate of senior NIA officials. During the investigation, several forged documents were found, including medical degree certificates. Various ID cards, ATM cards, and blank cheques were also confiscated. The STF found that Bukhari was in contact with suspicious individuals in Kerala and some Pakistani citizens, and he was also wanted by the Kashmir Police for cheating and forgery.
