The Odisha government is developing its Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0, with a recent meeting between the Commerce & Transport and Energy Departments highlighting the key objectives. A primary goal of the policy is to achieve at least 50% Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in all new vehicle registrations by the year 2036. Odisha has observed a notable increase in EV registrations, climbing from 1.16% in 2021 to 8.71% as of June 20, 2025. The upcoming policy revisions will incorporate incentives for EV buyers and Charge Point Operators (CPOs). The state also intends to explore the possibility of utilizing ICE vehicles to establish an EV fund to support adoption and infrastructure. The initiative includes the accelerated rollout of Public Charging Stations (PCS) to address concerns about vehicle range. Odisha will utilize the PM e-DRIVE Scheme to offer financial assistance. The state plans a holistic approach to boost both the supply and demand for EVs, ensuring balanced growth within the EV sector.
