An alarming incident occurred in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, where a patient fell to his death from the third floor of RDJM Hospital, located in the Turki police station area. The deceased has been identified as Harendra Ram, a resident of Bariyarpur, Sakra. This tragic event has led to allegations of negligence against the hospital management.
It is understood that Harendra Ram was a patient at RDJM Hospital, receiving treatment in the mental health ward. On the morning of the incident, he left his room to use the restroom. When he failed to return, a search was initiated by his relatives and the hospital staff. After searching the hospital grounds, the searchers looked down from the third floor, discovering a person lying on a garbage heap. This person was later identified as Harendra Ram.
A significant point of concern is the delay in the hospital administration’s awareness of the fall and subsequent death. The body remained on the garbage pile for an extended duration before the authorities were notified. The family and others present at the scene expressed their distress, prompting the hospital to finally take action. Upon receiving the information, the police arrived and secured the body for a post-mortem examination at SKMCH.
The family of the deceased has expressed their dissatisfaction with the level of care provided at the hospital, stating that sufficient monitoring was not in place. They emphasized the need for increased supervision given the patient’s mental health condition, and they attribute the incident to negligence on the part of the hospital staff. The family is deeply saddened by the loss.
Police investigations are underway, as stated by Turki Police Station Officer Rahul Kumar. The police are awaiting a formal complaint from the family to proceed with further actions. The family believes the incident brings into question the procedures within the hospital. It is considered necessary to constantly monitor patients in the mental ward to prevent self-harm or harm to others, and the family is drawing attention to what they see as a lack of security and monitoring. Local residents and family members have requested a high-level investigation into the matter. The police are presently involved in the investigation.
